data has a better idea

Optimization tools do not provide what they promise. Why?

Optimization and simulation software seems to be the best that is available in supply chain efficiency. They offer options and insights to implement logistics in the most optimum way by discovering and eliminating inefficient points that might be overlooked. It is a significant subject for companies for decreasing their costs.

However, when benefit is in question, these technologies might not be able to provide the savings they are committed to. Reasons may vary; inappropriate business model, the inability of the systems to exchange accurate information, having too many exceptions and the most common one is a large number of manual data flows.

For an accurate optimization & planning, the key is data. It is obvious that the most valuable asset and tool for us all is data. The first step in optimization and simulation is to analyze it. Unless you have some valid information in hand and automated data flow, you can optimize or simulate only according to your ideas or predictions; which means that you can’t go beyond theory.

For instance; many companies do not know how many kilometers were driven to deliver/receive a shipment. They do not have sufficient information about the success rate of deliveries, on-time deliveries, non-conformity rates or return logistics rate which is vital for the industry.

Of course, they might have some ideas about these important details; nevertheless, it is a fact that they do not have the exact numbers automatically.

At the moment, either you receive the information very late, very little or you don’t receive it at all! The result is that you don’t get the real benefit of the optimization tool, you invested and moreover you need to hire more people to get the correct data for the optimization. You will end up with more cost…

Benefiting more from optimization tools and reducing the cost really possible?

You need to focus on gathering information automatically in the most simple way possible! When the goods were picked up, how many kilometers were driven for the shipment, was it on time/late and what’s the real-time location of all the movements!

Simply Deliver offers “plug & play” solutions that you can easily add on existing solutions (ERP, TMS or back office system) within a few hours. You can use this solution independently to retrieve all the information you need for getting the best optimization and simulation.

Either it’s your truck, charter’s or you might even not know who the driver; Simply Deliver platform connects all of them for you! Once you have this, you’ll get all the movement information real-time, will be able to gather POD or non-conformities directly without any restriction and delay.

Would you like to increase your efficiency, cut-cost and have a real optimization in your supply chain? Then we’re here to assist you to realize that in the most affordable, fastest and simplest way.

What is Proof of Delivery ?

“Avis de reception” meaning “Service of guaranteed delivery” is a method to establish the fact that the recipient received the content sent by the sender. First proof of delivery service was in 1917 for a post from Melbourne to Mexico. (Wikipedia)

It has evolved in time and it has turned into “digital signature”; yet I believe it’s obsolete! Don’t get me wrong, it was a significant innovation then but not anymore as many consumers are complaining about wrong deliveries, the packages dumped to their neighbors or wrong delivery notifications. That’s why a digital signature is so outdated and does not help to solve the problem!

Is there any solution without high investment? The answer is simply YES!

For instance; the receiver can sign the delivery from his/her own phone! Voilâ, you have the proof that the shipment has been delivered to the right person. Or autonomous signature thanks to geofencing and location matching. Another way, the receiver can authorize someone else to sign the POD on behalf.

Sounds complex and expensive?

All you need is the receiver`s mobile phone number and a smartphone! I assume you already have both 🙂

At Simply Deliver, we provide these out-of-the-box solutions so that you can have safe & sound deliveries for your in-valuables at an affordable price.

Zero Touch IT

Cloud or On-Premise Software: Which One is better for Your Business?

The use of information systems in the logistics industry continues to increase every year. Businesses today abandon software installation on local hardware because they are subscribing to software that they can access with any web browser through cloud deployment. Cloud-based software is less costly than on-premise systems. Cloud technologies also help businesses reduce IT costs like hardware and support staff.

It is very important for the managers to plan the logistics processes and to pour these plans into the data. Loss of such important data as a result of any mistake or not being able to act on time can cause disruptions in the business process.

Cloud computing technology is, therefore, a very important technology for logistics / supply chain.

First of all, let’s look at what cloud computing is basically and how it works.

With cloud computing technology, large data sets have become stored and accessible over the internet. Cloud computing is the process of storing data that we store on our hard disks on virtual servers in the internet environment.

That means your computer, which stores your personal and professional information, becomes a device that only allows you to connect to the Internet. All your office programs, your files, your images, your calendar, your personal information, in short, the computer’s memory starts to hide in the cloud.

Thus, you can handle your business by accessing this information and programs from any device and anywhere you can connect to the internet.

In the logistics industry where many processes such as transportation, warehousing, distribution, vehicle tracking and finance are managed at the same time, you can reduce your costs by half due to cloud computing. In addition to the cost advantage, you are also able to make many of the controls you need to perform at the same time easier.

You Can Get a Cost Advantage of Up to 50% in Logistics

When we evaluate quickly with a general overview, we see that on premise investments are;

– increasing the instant workload,

– bringing a lot of cost on the enterprises due to the change in seasonal work intensity and the low profit margins,

– being too slow and late to meet instant customer needs, and

– becoming a frustrating dream of logistics companies, due to the 99.999% SLA expected from logistics companies in recent years.

Now, let’s look at the benefits and advantages of cloud-based logistics technology in just three basic chapters:

1- Cloud technology has a better resource management capability in the logistics industry.

There is no need for a different desktop to handle resources; it is possible to manage the process with internet access and a single browser.

2- Your basic cost planning is easier to prepare.

Because you can manage your cloud supply chain in real time, order processing, storage, inventory management, shipping and general pricing are both more scalable and cheaper.

3- Your quality assessment becomes more efficient.

Cloud-based logistics assesses the company’s ability to realize more realistically. Standards are captured more easily by controlling each stage of the process faster and better. It is easy to identify quality violations and solving problems requires less effort and less money.

As Simply Deliver, we are pleased to provide 24/7 robust, reliable and fast service to logistics companies with our cloud infrastructure based in The Netherlands. We integrate cloud technology in a sector-compatible manner and help your business move more securely in its operations.

Hidden Costs!

When IT implementations are the subject, the first thought of the customer is;“It’s gonna us cost a fortune!”

Well, I can’t claim that it’s NOT true! The experiences in the market;

  1. There is a Wikipedia page that lists “List of failed and over budget custom software projects”. The total cost of these lost projects are approximately $25bn. (these are just publicly listed lost projects…) And many of them are failed due to wrong scope definition or too much scope creep.
  2. According to Gartner’s researches, almost 90% of the IT investments are for just to keep the lights on! In other words, huge maintenance cost. Top-3 reasons of the costs are old technology, on-premise solutions, and too-many customization.
  3. According to the research of Spiceworks, almost 15% of the budget for a breakout of server crashes and almost 10% of the budget for software functional problems in 2016.

This proves that IT market has full of “Hidden Costs” including module & plug-in upsells, tailor-made developments, infrastructure requirements, maintenance and upgrade costs as well as software and hardware with an average lifespan of 36 months. Therefore, it is true that you might have a feeling “IT costs fortune….”

Nevertheless, the whole world has recently met SaaS model. In the beginning, everyone was a bit skeptical since it sounded as a low-level startup cost but long run paying a fortune. Companies like UBER, AirBnB or showed that the “as a Service” model is the best for the market and gave a chance to software companies to reshape their proposition.

Companies like EXACT, Jortt or Visma shows that the SaaS model is not a gold-mine solution but real solution for the SMEs where they can get the today’s technology for an affordable price so that they’re not bothered about the unnecessary administration.

It’s a fact that IT is getting cheaper and cheaper for SMEs as well. That’s also our goal at Simply Deliver to provide an affordable solution for the whole market so that the competition can be really about the creativity & service level.
